Sunglasses
Overexposure to the sun can cause short- and long-term damage to the eyes. Sunglasses don't have to be expensive to do the job well. Inexpensive sunglasses that provide 100 percent UV protection can be found at local variety stores, grocery stores, and department stores. The percentage of the ultraviolet rays filtered out by sunglasses is usually printed on the label.
People who wear prescription glasses can have an ultraviolet coating added to their lenses.
To promote sunglasses:
- Encourage everyone to wear sunglasses that filter out 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays.
- Provide UV-protective sunglasses to employees.
- Provide an annual allowance to outdoor workers for the purchase of UV-protective sunglasses or goggles.
